Mosaics for different countries
I am an English lady living most of the time in Spain and my mosaics are made in my workshop in the hills behind Marbella, Southern Spain. Our climate in this region allows the use of ceramic tiles on the exterior as well as interior of properties and can be seen on the exterior walls of houses all over the Andalucia region. This means that I can use most types of tiles for exterior pictures without worrying about frost damage etc.
When tile mosaics are made for cooler climates it must be remembered that some tiles are not frost proof and careful consideration must be given to the materials used. England is a prime example and only frost proof tiles can be used for an exterior mosaic; this can affect the colour choice and cost of a mosaic, although it is surprising what is available nowadays but extra time must be allowed to source the right products.
The alternative in cooler regions would be to position a mosaic inside where it can add vibrancy to a room, create a Mediterranean feel within a conservatory, make a fantastic original backsplash in a bathroom or kitchen and so on…
